Context



The place is in the West of Torremolinos, located in El Pinillo district, situated in a growth area, away from the city center. 
In the North we can find Sierra Llana and in the South we can find a big sea horizon. Its  construction date from the 1998/99. It was built to assist the big growth of families which were being laid in the city. The localitation of the center and its big population is an important fact because we can see that "El Pinillo" is an uptown belonging to a town. Its population is quite different from a village school.

It's a public center where attend people from different economic and cultural levels.
In the surroundings we can find some stores, a bakery, a lot of flats, a kindergarten, parks...In conclussion, it's an appropiate area to have a school. In fact, we could give a class on the park near to the school. We could talk about nature and give a class outdoor. It's quite important that children understand their surrondings because it's the place where they live. If we go to the park, they can learn it is not only a place where they can place, it's to a place where they can learn. We could talk about flowers, about literature and we can also talk about their feelings on this place. These are good activities which improve their perspective of school and learning. They can also go to school in the afternoon because they have their playground's door open in order to facilitate a space where children can play. School 

It was created to be a school with three lines in each level. However, in the beginnigs they only built a little space to harbor two lines in each level. Due to its huge population growth in 2004/05, they had to extend to three lines in each level. Currently, they have 30 classes, a big canteen with kitchen, gym, music room, TIC room, library, secretary and offices. The other facilities are outdoor, sports facilities and landscaped areas.

Other classrooms to consider in the center are: pedagogy classroom, therapeutic pedagogy, hearing classroom and language shared with Intercultural. Educational support are given in little classrooms, destined to tutorials and counselor's office.

As we can see in the picture, every children collaborates in the decoration of the stairs and walls: the center chose a peaceful song trying to concern children and they had to color each letter. As I see it, with this kind of initiatives, they feel more connected with the center because they take part in their activities.


About the socio-economic view, according to the School Plan, it's a med-level center. Nevertheless, it has change because of young families, which have influenced on surroundings with new buildings. We have pupils from resident families in the center but we also have pupils who live in next areas to El Pinillo. In addition, we have a huge number of foreigns, especially Spanish American, English people, Arabs and Chinese people. In my classroom, we have children from different nationalities. In addition , I could realized about the importance of families. It was a pupil whose family context is really bad due to its low culture and level. It's obviously a problem because this person have difficulties to study the same subjects than her classmates. 

There are about 680 pupils in the school, from the first years to Primary. They have different nationalities, races, cultures and different languages. 
Because of the mix of students, we have projects to students with special educational needs.

On the left we can see a ramp, it's because all the center is adapted to handicapped people. They have an elevator which works everyday to these people who can't use the stairs.

About the city context, we must consider Torremolinos as one of the most multicultural towns in Andalusia. There are living until 130 people with different nationalities. The foreign population is a big part of our dwellers. They are from UE, Netherlands, France, Germany and United Kingdom. 
On the other hand we have a big number of foreigns from North Africa, Morocco, Ibero-America and China. 

This mix of cultures makes our environment really interesting. We mix cultures, manners and ideas: one important point for inclusion. This point creates various socio-economic and educational levels in the town: some pupils can't speak Spanish, some pupils can't develop the same speed knowledge than others...For this reason, it's really important to achieve a classroom project which includes everyone.

Classroom context

What about my classroom context? They are organizated in little groups to work together almost every subject.

We can find some interesting things which try to encourage children to be conscious with some issues: like reading, care about nature, sharing...

Library

They have a library where they can put their books when they are not going to use them. In addition, if they haven't got homeworks, they can let them on the library in order not to increase the weight of their schoolbags. There are a responsible who have to deliver them when the subject starts. On the other hand, they have also a book which it's used in Language. It's "Manolito Gafotas" and the responsible have to deliver this book too.

Plants
They have some plants in order to awareness children about nature. They encourage them to care for the environment. It's important because it's also a responsability because they have to watering plants and they learn a new world: their growth, their needs.

There are a lot of different children in the classroom: there are people from Africa, there are gypsies too and I consider it's quite difficult to assit everybody as they deserve. They have really different levels due to their familiar context and I think we should try to assit this education necessities.
